Surrounded by Plantations and a quaint way of life that will remind you of how life was back when. Thomasville and the surrounding area is a wonderful place to retire and/ or visit. The history here is rich and long; predating the Civil War. Before Florida became the vacation spot, Thomasville was known as a place of winter vacation for affluent people, such as Jock Whitney (former Ambassador to Britain), Secretary Treasurer, George Humphrey (under the Eisenhower Administration), William McKinley before he became President. Our most recent notable vistor was Vice President Dick Cheney came for a visit. Following the Civil War, Thomasville was often visited for health reasons; the thinking at that time was the many pines and warm air would be beneficial for those with pulmonary afflictions. Others came to hunt on one of the many Plantations that surround Thomasville. Some just came for the social gatherings. The streets and roads of this county have been trodden by some very famous and notable people through out its history. To this very day, Thomasville continues to turn out some very talented and successful people who place their imprint on history with art, music, business or athletic abilities.
