This blog was created to showcase Thomasville Georgia and the surrounding area as a great place to live and retire.
I moved with my parents to Thomasville when I was fourteen, I have been here ever since, except for a couple of years. My husband’s relatives and ancestors occupied this county going back over one hundred years, to 1901 on his mother’s side. Over the years I have grown to appreciate things like, being close enough to the coast to go for a day trip, within one hour and 30 minutes express route or two to three hours the slow scenic route. Close to
Tallahassee Florida for all kinds of shopping, eating and entertainment events. Four hours from Atlanta and the Georgia mountains can be reached in a day.
Thomasville proper has a good balance of slow southern atmosphere and yet a lot of culture for arts, writing, politics, athletics, music, acting, these are all encouraged and nurtured here. The people, for the most part, as a community take pride in their homes and keep their yards and property well groomed. It is as if they know company is coming and they want to look good. The list of those who have achieved some degree of notoriety (mostly good) is very long. Joann Woodward, wife of Paul Newman is from here. Her father was the principal of an all girls’ school here. This is just one of many well known personalities from our area. I will give more detail of these personalities in the history category of this blog. There will be current events for the area and a photograph section, for your viewing pleasure. Any questions, suggestions or comments will be welcome, after all it is you the reader that makes a blog, without you enjoying and gaining something from this writing, well what’s the purpose?
